May is Older Americans Month, and Americans are living longer. When Older Americans Month was established in 1963, 17 million Americans had reached their 65th birthday. Today statistics show by 2030, that number will double.
Let’s celebrate our local older Americans. At Windsor Houston, Rosalie McDonald is one of the oldest residents in the facility and says her life couldn’t have been any better. At 99 years old, McDonald was born in Mexia, Texas and was the youngest of 12 children. She has outlived all of her brothers and sisters and remembers that her mother always used to say, “It was cheaper to have them by the dozen.” She says she was spoiled by her father because she was the youngest child. She was married for over 45 years and never had any children. She loves music and played the violin and ukulele. She believes music is in her heart, body, and soul. Mrs. McDonald and the residents at Windsor Houston encourage everyone to join in by celebrating older Americans!
